Privacy Policy

This policy explains how Oyster Bay Residents Directory handles visitor information and the choices available to you. The service is a private reference to public indexes and directory collections relating to the Town of Oyster Bay, Nassau County, New York. No account is required, and we do not maintain a resident profile or retain a copy of each search submitted through the search forms.

Information You Submit

A name, phone number, or address entered in a search form is sent to the independent provider that supplies the results. Our servers do not keep a copy of those searches. When you email us, we receive the information in your message and use it to answer you.

Information Collected Automatically

Our host maintains routine server logs, such as IP address, browser type, pages requested, and timestamps. We review this information in aggregate to maintain the service and understand which material visitors use. Cookies and similar tools may also support basic analytics and, where applicable, advertising measurement.

How We Use Information

We use the limited information described above to run the service, resolve technical issues, measure traffic, and improve its pages. We do not sell visitor lists or create profiles of individual visitors.

External Websites

Oyster Bay Residents Directory links to county and state records portals, libraries, archives, and third-party search tools. Each destination follows its own privacy policy, which controls information you submit there. That includes sponsored search results provided by a third-party company.

Who May Process Information

Providers that host or support the service may process server logs on our behalf. Analytics and advertising partners may receive the automatic information described above. We disclose information only when valid legal process requires disclosure.

Security and Retention

The service uses an encrypted connection, and logs are retained only for the purposes described above. Because there are no accounts, the service does not hold a visitor password or account profile. New York's SHIELD Act requires reasonable safeguards for private information, but it is a security and breach law, not a general right to require deletion. See the New York Attorney General's SHIELD Act guidance.

Visitors Under 18

This service is intended for adults and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has sent us information, contact us so we can delete it.

Your Choices and New York Rights

Rights to access, correct, or delete data may depend on where you live and the information involved. As of August 29, 2026, New York has no enacted comprehensive consumer-privacy or data-broker statute that creates a universal opt-out or general deletion right. Because we retain very little, a request through the Contact page normally involves reviewing our contact mailbox and available server logs, then removing information we locate when appropriate.

Public records held by the Town of Oyster Bay, Nassau County, New York State, or another custodian are outside our control. Ask the originating custodian to correct an error or to consider a lawful redaction or sealing request. New York's Freedom of Information Law, Public Officers Law Article 6, §§84-90, provides access to agency records but is not an erasure command. The official FOIL text describes that process. The actual address of a participant in the New York Address Confidentiality Program, Executive Law §108 and 19 NYCRR Part 134, must remain protected; we will not unmask it or assist an effort to do so.

Policy Updates

We will post any revision to this privacy policy here. Continued use after a revision signifies acceptance of the updated policy.
